Mexicans: With talent to spare

Wow just wow! Is all I can say about this collection. Hope you enjoy these gorgeous, luxurious, indulgent designs by Mr. Alberto Rodriguez. Such a shame that the sound was disabled for this video, what’s a fashion show without a soundtrack of course, but sound or no sound these creations blow me away.

Fun With Spanish: Funny/Interesting sayings

Today’s funny expression is  “Darse una manita de gato” =  Use a  cat’s paw on oneself. Lol I’m laughing wondering what the first thing coming to mind for some readers is upon hearing this expression.  Well, here’s what this feline inspired saying is talking about : “Darse una manita de gato” means to make yourself look good. To freshen up, to make oneself presentable. Cat’s of course are synonymous with grooming and so the saying is pretty clear and makes plenty of sense.

USAGE: If a girl knows a guy she likes is coming by she might say “Me voy a dar una manita de gato” = I’m going to get pretty.  If a  girl said this on a date  that would mean she’s  going to check herself in the mirror and touch up.  If  someone was off to find a job and a friend told them  “Primero date una manita de gato” It would mean, make sure you look presentable before you walk out the door.

Ok dokster so hope that everyone enjoyed this interesting/funny expression and that you can have fun with it yourselves, cuz Spanish is always MegaSuper Chido!

Disclaimer: As always I apologize for my crappy spelling in Spanish and my lack of knowledge when it comes to  Alt Key codes for accents, I’m working on it =) It may not be perfect (the blog) but in my own little way I’m trying to share what I love and hoping others can enjoy it too.

Coolest Mexican I’ve seen today

I was watching the World Cup Opening Concert, when the camera panned over the crowd, there among the Mexican fans was this guy dressed as Father Miguel Hidalgo! My gosh that was megasuper chido! Go Mexico! Represent my paisanos!

Mexico’s Angelic Presence in South Africa

The World Cup is so close! Can you savor the anticipation? Check this out, a replica of one of the most famous and venerated Mexican landmarks “The Angel of Independence”, located in Mexico City at who’s base Mexican Heroes are buried has been transported to South Africa. Too cool or what?! Its home in South Africa will be Johannesburg the city in which the Mexico vs South Africa game will open up the grandiose tournament. The statue will serve as a symbol for the radiant and divine beauty that is Mexico & its people.  The location of the statute will serve as a place where:  our compatriots, South African and  international brothers & sisters will be able to celebrate and join in the Mexican spirit.  Guess this gives a whole new meaning to saying that,  El Tri tiene Angel =D Read more on this story(in Spanish) at the following link from El Tri’s official site.

Update On Prescott Mural

Check it out the Prescott AZ school district has decided not to mess with the mural and issued an apology.  Blair has lost his radio spot, yet continues to be and idiot about the issue.  He called the mural a “defacement of a historical building.” So here’s what he says is his main beef with the mural, Blair says that he doesn’t see a good representation of  the mural’s theme “Go Green”.   Alright, well then that would mean that a change to what the kids are doing to exemplify “going green”  would be in order not to the kids themselves. I like the way an article described the issue saying  the reason why they were trying to avert the mural was, because it represents change and they find  it  threatening.  That point is clearly illustrated in this quote “”It was too big, too in your face, wrong place, wrong time,” said Blair.  Great news that the mural won’t be “adjusted due to artistic issues”  because if a  city witnesses growing animosity amongst its citizens it has a duty to promote peace. It is the easy and coward’s way, acceding to those who are pro hate, discrimination, and division of the community.  By acceding, the city would be basically saying  “our city will stand for these sorts of inclinations and sentiments, such things can go on in our community. Whether active or passive, it is wrong to support such detrimental tendencies.

Lighten up, no really we don’t like ethnic representations

An elementary school in Prescott Arizona  altered a  mural that depicts the faces of its own students. Why?  It has been reported that intolerant antagonizers where driving past the mural and yelling racial slurs, not only that but  city councilman Blair had an issue with it as well. He stated on the radio that when he saw the mural and the fact that the   focal point was a black person one question came to mind “Why?” The spineless jelly fish of administrators who are not only tolerating this bull crap but acceding to it say that it was nothing more than a touch up, brought on by issues stemming from an artistic point of view. That they thought lighter shading represented the kids “coming into the light”.  I agree with the HuffPo reporter there are no two sides to this story, and it’s a shame that the story is not being diffused in a broader manner. I also agree with the fact that the school should have said NO WAY to the ludicrous idea of messing with the way the mural was. Ironic, yesterday on Twitter I read a tweet by someone who said he had gone out to a Mexican restaurant in solidarity, to show support to the business and its owners, he said “If they get rid of them you know who’s next”
