Mexican Artist of the Day

It’s Sunday, time to kick back and relax. Well, what can be more relaxing than admiring beautiful art?  I actually  found out about our featured artist through a tweet by Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa (Mexican League, team America/ El Tri  soccer star).  Diego Anaya is a talent native to Mexico City , one who can check pro soccer player & gifted artist off his “Things I want to become” list.  Just to get an idea of what kind of flavor his paintings have, his inspirations growing up included artists like Modigliani, Dali, and Warhol to name a few. Diego eventually got the chance to have artist Guillermo Canseco take him under his wing.  Thanks to the opportunity of being able study under this  artistic professional of 30 years Diego was able to exhibit and sell his work in several parts Mexico and a few major cities in the U.S.

I really wish I could post a picture of his work, but I’m not quite sure how that works, with all the copy write stuff. I’m not sure if I’d be ok to post something so long as I link it back. =S  Just  follow the links guys, his work is really cool.  So far my fav piece is “Thinking about sex & love” it evokes vibrant emotions. Well enjoyness much as always & let’s not forget to spread the word and support Mexican talent whenever possible =D

Beautiful Mexican Poetry

SILENCE by Octavio Paz

As if from the background of music

springs forth a note,

that while it vibrates it  grows and thins out

till it becomes silent in other music,

It sprouts from  the background of silence

another silence, sharp tower,sword

and it rises, and it grows, and suspends us

and while it grows memories fall, hopes, small lies and the big ones,

and we want to scream and in our throats the shout fades away:

We flow into silence where the silences fade away.

SILENCIO , Octavio Paz

Así como del fondo de la música
brota una nota
que mientras vibra crece y se adelgaza
hasta que en otra música enmudece,
brota del fondo del silencio
otro silencio, aguda torre, espada,
y sube y crece y nos suspende
y mientras sube caen
recuerdos, esperanzas,
las pequeñas mentiras y las grandes,
y queremos gritar y en la garganta
se desvanece el grito:
desembocamos al silencio
en donde los silencios enmudecen.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Totonacs of Papantla, Veracruz performing the “voladores” ritual

The Danza de los Voladores de Papantla (Dance of Papantla’s flyers) is a ritualistic dance in Veracruz, Mexico performed by the Totonac Indians and Olmeca Indians. Five men, each representing the five elements of the indigenous world climb atop a pole, one of them stays on the pole playing a flute and dancing while the remaining four descend the pole with a rope tied by one of their feet. The rope unwraps itself 13 times for each of the four flyers, symbolizing the 52 weeks of the year.

This dance is thought to be the vestige of a pre-Hispanic volador ritual common not only in ancient Veracruz but in western Mexico as well.[1]

Origins

According to legend, a long drought covered the Earth so five men decided to send Xipe Totec, the God of fertility a message, asking them for the rain to return. They went to the forest and looked for the straightest tree, cut it, and took it back to their town. They removed all branches and placed it on the ground, then dressed themselves as feet/birds and descended flying attempting to grab their God’s attention.
