Novelas becoming a Hit in China

It’s being reported that two Novelas are making it big right now in China. The first is a story that everyone fell in love with as soon as it debuted. It garnered so much success and ratings that it wasn’t long before remakes by different countries were being produced.  I’m talking about  Colombia’s “Betty La Fea”= Betty The Ugly Girl .  Mexico’s version was, “La Fea Mas Bella ” = The Most Beautiful Ugly Girl”, the US had “Ugly Betty”,  Germany had “Alles Betty”,  just to name a few.  And still the concept’s popularity continues as China prepares to air the 4th season of its version of the story “Ugy girl with no Rival”. While this novela is being remade with Asian actors, the other drama which is enjoying success in China is being broadcasted in it’s original state.  That dramas is… Mexico’s “Destilando Amor”= Distilling Love. That’s right this is a novela who’s concept is not being borrowed, tweaked, and remade.  The actual original work in its entirety, including: original actors, and storyline is being showcased. Thus our wonderful culture is crossing borders and diffusing it’s beauty. According to the article which reported the success of these two novelas, they are in the Top 3 most watch Dramas of the moment in China. I hope that this is a sign of things to come.

For sometime now the Asian Culture wave has been expanding & as it has, it’s been winning followers and creating enthusiasts where ever it spreads. A large part of its success is due to the diffusion of pop culture, especially music and dramas. If you are not a drama fan, you may not be aware…But dramas are a HUGE deal! Drama fans or “Drama addicts” as they like to call themselves are very devout enthusiasts. Here is an example: Dramas that are not broadcasted across borders or subbed by the original broadcaster still make it big thanks to dedicated “subbers” and “up-loaders”. These are fans who work to help those who couldn’t otherwise enjoy dramas through special sites, sites made by Drama fans for Drama fans. Drama’s are a big deal, because there’s a very special chain reaction that occurs thanks to dramas. Thanks to dramas: fans have become interested in Asian music when listening to the soundtrack while watching the drama , they also  fall in love with the actors which leads them to follow said actors on other shows, and while becoming so fascinated with all these cool and fun things some fans become interest in the language in which they watch dramas,  eventually deciding to study it. I would love it if our culture could be shared, and appreciated with such enthusiasm. I’d love to see sites where Novelas are being subbed and shared with others. I’d love to see more of our actors & singers become popular in countries where Spanish is not spoken.

Mexican Soccer league: On the way to the 2010 Bicentennial Tourney

The “Bicentennial Tournament” will simply be the regular Closing Tournament renamed in honor of Mexico’s Bicentennial festivities.  As with the end of every championship & eve of every new competition , excitement, mystery, uncertainty, and plenty of anticipation fill the air as talks & decisions  for change take place.

*For complete calender of Bicentennial games please see bottom of post.

One of the biggest stories from the draft this time around deals with  my beloved golden foot &  favorite captain of my dear Chivas : Ramon “Ramoncito” Morales who is going through quite a trying ordeal with the future of his career being in limbo. Ramoncito was completley snubbed by the “Liga de Acenso” (ascending league) during the recent draft.  * The Mexican league is dived into 1st division and the afore mentioned league. After tournaments, teams are evaluated & will either qualify to ascend to 1st division or “descend” to the latter.  Now many are saying that favorable or not his only two choices are : To remain with Chivas Guadalajara where he has a standing contract or go abroad.  The reason why a move was so vital, even if it was to the Acenso league, he will be part of the bench during  The “Bicentennial Tournament” & as for the 2010 Interliga(the InterLiga is a football competition between Mexican clubs to determine qualifying spots for that country in South America’s premier club) Chivas will not take  part in this tourney & if he remains he will see no play time.  At length he was offered a position by Queretaro & the MLS, but Mr. Morales said that it seemed only reasonable & proper for him to go ahead &  finish out his current contract with Guadalajara.
*Another notable change affecting Chivas, Adolfo “El Bofo” Bautista after having a very prosperous run with Jaguares (Chiapas) will return to  “The sacred flock” (Chivas)

As for other major events taken place during the draft, I present the following “Highs(altas) & lows (bajas)of the draft” chart  with the names of teams & their new players. Source & credits: elvueloaguila.blogspot.com

Mexican TV: Today, a Children’s Classic

Today it is my pleasure to introduce you to a classic :”Carrusel” (carousel). This video is from  the show’s intro. Mexico is well know for it’s Novelas(dramas, soap operas, what ever you want to call them) this particular novela(series) was actually a children’s program. The successfully popular show  aired in the 90’s. It was broadcasted both in Mexico & abroad, including  here in the USA.  If you’re a 90’s brat & Hispanic… Chances are, you grew up on this. (I sure did =P)
ABOUT THE SHOW:  It’s a really sweet, cool  story about a teacher & her class. The children in the group are diverse, come from different walks of life ,backgrounds, & situations.  There’s : rich preppy kids, poor kids from humble homes,  nerdy kids, cool kids, trouble making kids, kids with happy home lives, and those with dysfunctional families.  The show dealt with an array of interesting topics such as: friendships, family, first loves, spoiling kids, getting along with others, domestic violence, kidnapping, discrimination, the importance of education….etc
Some of  Mexico’s most popular celebrities started their careers with this Series.
Speaking of the class being diverse, Side note: While some people think that if you go to  Mexico all you’ll find is brown skinned people with dark black hair…. The truth is,  if you really traveled about Mexico you’d be surprised by what you’d find. Because Mexico & it’s people  has been influenced by a history of invasions, immigrating  groups & foreign settlers , you can find Mexican citizens with touches  of influence from different countries &  ethnicities, Such :as Asian, European,  African.. etc
